For Thomas, great painting is not only about the “subject matter,” but rather the way an artist communicates beauty, sensitivity and integrity in what is painted. People have always inspired him. Their unique flaws, beautiful smiles, and odd shapes are the characteristics of humanity that brings soul to our planet. His understanding of the humble human being is brought forth in his drip work techniques; layers of color, imperfect brush strokes, visible pencil markings, varied textures and line work, and his blotchy use of paint density. These elements are the implementation of his intuitive trademark.
The pieces in this gallery are self-portraits created during an internal investigation dealing with identity and self approval. They are created using acrylic paints, often defused with water, which created the perfect vehicle and versatility for these moments dealing with insecurity, translucency, and mix-expressions.
